Make Your Mind Up!!

You know how in one of  my last posts i said was going to do monthly themes?... Well I've changed my mind, changed it back and changed it again.  i will still be posting on a Wednesday and Sunday but my posts will just be random.  The reason for the change is that i had struggled to come up with enough post ideas that would fit in to a category, but enough posts to fit into a lot of single categories.(If that makes any sense) This is also the reason for having no post on Wednesday.

Do you have any posts/topics you would like me to write about?

My Music Corner

I spend most of my time in my room (as most teens probably do) so I have split my room into different sections for my different hobbies (when i say split i haven't put walls between each section).  I don't have a lot of spare space in my room but i try to make it work, i have space for: music, reading, school work, artwork, blogging.  As this month is music month i thought i would share my music corner with you so you can see where i practice.

In my corner I have a couple of cushions to sit on, although i am thinking of buying myself a beanbag to make it more comfortable,  a folder with all the songs that i can play, my capo and pick.
I also have my guitar which is the main instrument that i play, i also play the piano but i don't keep it in my room anymore.  I have only been playing the guitar for about 16 months, but i have been playing the piano, on and off, for about 5 years.  I am mainly self taught with a bit of help from my Dad.  And that's all i have in my music corner, I know its not very interesting but i thought 'why not?'.

Do you play instruments, if so what do you play?  If you don't play anything what instrument would you really love to learn?

YouTube Music

This is my last installment of my music series so i thought i would share my favourite 3 music-y people to watch on YouTube.  They all have amazing voices and musical talents.

  1. Kurt Hugo Schneider- He is a music producer and create really cool covers of songs with other artist.  In some of his videos he uses ordinary 'non musical' things to create the track. Some of his videos are shot in one take, yet it looks like it was done in multiple.
  2. Against The Current- They are a Pop/Rock band they perform covers of songs whilst adding their own Pop/Rock twist to it, as well as writing and performing their own music
  3. Sam Tsui-  He works with Kurt Hugo Schneider a lot to produce amazing covers.

Who do you listen to YouTube?? Have you ever listened to to any of these three artists???

Marianas Trench: How Their Music Helps Me!

As some of you may or may not know, I have recently been diagnosed with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/ ME/ Chronic Fatigue and severe depression, and it has had a really negative effect on my life for the past 6 Months.  I haven't been to school for 8 weeks because of how bad it has become, but since listening to Marinas Trench it has help me deal with certain aspects of my life such as just getting out of bed and sleeping.

As I've mentioned in my previous post music really helps me to overcome and deal with things that would otherwise be impossible to do.  And one band has really helped me to deal with how I'm feeling (mentally).

The way i listen to music I think is quite strange, maybe its normal, I like to play the song and think about the music itself was written and how just the sound of the instruments make me feel.  Then after a while I listen purely to the lyrics and try to understand the message that is being conveyed through them, sometimes the 'message' (I used quote marks because it probably wasn't the message that the writer put in to the song, just my interpretation)  stands out clearly but other times its not so easy to understand.  After listening to the song and roughly understanding the message being conveyed, I usually look for the videos/ behind the scenes of that song to try and understand it more.

Obviously i don't do this with every song, a lot of the time i do it just because interests me, but after watching videos and behind the scenes to some of Marianas Trench's music I really started to connect with the lyrics and the music.  I have found that with their music it can have a different effect on you depending on what mood you are in, for instance, there have been times where i have been in tears to several of their songs, yet there have been times where i have been just belting it as a feel good song.

Things that i like about their music is...

  • Anyone can relate to at least some of the lyrics
  • Even the sad songs can make you feel good about something
  • It always has a good beat to it!!!

Here are some of my favourite songs and some of the songs that I feel I relate to the most:

Here's To All The Zeros

Who Do You Love

While We're Young

Masterpiece Theatre iii

Beside You

What bands/ artists help you through rough times?? Have you ever listened to Marianas Trench? If so whats your favourite track/ album???

What Music Means To Me

It can mean different things to different people, for me it helps me cope with my anxiety's.  I don't go anywhere without my music and headphones.  For some people it makes them feel happy, It can remind them of memories from a long time ago when they first heard that song/ album.  For others it can be a way of relieving anger by listening to rock/ heavy-metal bands.  It could also make them sad as they think about who they used to listen to a particular song with.  As I've said music is important to me and is probably just as important, if not more, to others.

I go through different phases of what i listen to, and it can change really frequently, 2 weeks ago i was actively listening to country music, today I'm listening to Rock music.  I've always grown up listening to bands like Queen (which i still love to this day) and music with a lot of guitar and drum solos in it, which i guess has had a big impact on the type of music i listen to.  My dad was always the one who be playing this kind of music and also playing along with it.  As I've grown up i have found that music has become extremely important in how i live everyday life, if i didn't have my music i don't think i would be able to go out into big, new places without majorly panicking.  It has also helped me have the best group of friends i could ever have, to share my passion of music with, as well as it helping me build up more self-confidence, by performing in front of my friends and at school concerts.

What sort of music do you like to listen to?  What does music mean to you?
