3 Favourite Christmas Films

Every Christmas there are always Christmas films on TV and every year my Mom, brother and me sit down and watch a few films.  Of course, there are some that I'm not a huge fan of but there also some that I look forward to such as: The Muppet Christmas Carol, Elf and The Holiday.

The Muppet Christmas Carol
The Muppets tell the story of Scrooge on Christmas eve.  It is an adaptation of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol

One of Santa's elf's discovers his true identity and fly's to New York, where he spreads Christmas cheer and meets his biological father.

The Holiday
Two women swap their house and country because of guy problems.  During this swap they both come to fall in love with a local boy.

Last Minutes Christmas Gift Ideas: #1

Its really close to Christmas and I don't know about you but I always have trouble finding the right gift for someone. In this mini series I will be showing you 2 different quick Christmas gift ideas.

This first gift is a Beauty Mug.(Items will vary for different people) Things You'll Need:
  • A Mug
  • 3 Beauty Items
  • Tissue Paper (Colour of your choice)
  • Ribbon
  • Clear Cellophane

1. Take the mug you are going to use and place the tissue paper inside it, also covering the whole of the outside of the mug.

2. Then take the three items you are going to fill the mug with and arrange them inside the mug so that they all fit.

3. Place the mug in the center of the clear cellophane and gather all the surrounding cellophane to the top.  Then take the ribbon and tie it around the cellophane holding the cellophane together.

And that's it! It's something cheap and simple that you can customize for just about anyone.

Let me know if you have tried this or if you have any other last minute gift ideas.

Today i though i would share something that has been troubling me a lot over the past couple of weeks.  as some of you might know i am dyslexic, which hasn't been a massive problem for me for the past 8 years, but as i have started year 10 it seems to be becoming a problem.

It started with words not meaning anything, even the simple words such as: can, use, you, if.  To me they were just shapes and not letters, so they didn't have any purpose or meaning.  It became very stressful to the point that i was ready to drop out of school and not bother ever turning up again.  But I knew that wouldn't help.  Luckily I had some great teachers that tried and are still trying to help me get through this tough stage.  They have been doing things like, making the slideshows a certain colour to help me read it  as well as printing handouts onto coloured paper.  And it has helped a bit.

I did go to the opticians to see if my eyes were effecting anything, and it turns out they are also playing a part in why i have been struggling so much.  Basically my eyes don't work together, only one eye works at a time meaning things become blurred.  Its like winking and changing eyes very, very quickly.

So two weeks on and I am slowly starting to work out what words say and mean, I'm still not able to work out all the words i used to know but I'm getting there.  But thinking of things to write and how to do certain things are still a struggle.  To be honest writing this post has taken me a few days.  It might take a few weeks or months for me to get back to normal but i will keep trying, even though i do occasionally feel like giving up.

Do you have Dyslexia or learning disability or mental health problem? Or do you have any advice? Leave a comment and let me know.

DIY Pencil Pot

If your like me then buying decorative stationary holders or room decor can be expensive,  so when i found out how to make my own from thing around my home I was glad that i didn't spend loads on pre-made things.  I always seem to be in need of pencil holders or little pots to put things in, so I'm going to show you how to make one out of an old tin and patterned paper of you choice.

What You Need

  • An old pot (Big enough to hold what want in it)
  • Paper with a pattern of your choice
  • Scissors
  • Glue/Double Sided Tape
  • Paint
  • PVA glue/Nail Varnish

1.Find an old can or tub that is big enough to hold you pens and pencils and make sure its completely cleaned out. ( If you are using an old tin can make sure that the rim of the can is not sharp)

2.Find the pattern you want to cover your pot with and make sure it fits all the way round you pot.   If you don't have any patterned paper you can google any image to put in the pot and print it so it fits, i used scrapbook paper, but you can personalize it as much as you want.

3.Place you pot against the back of the paper and mark the paper about 2 cm away from the pot, across the paper, so you have extra to stick to the inside of the pot. Then cut across the line you just made.

4.Now that you have your paper ready for covering your pot, you can paint the inside of you pot, so it matches either the theme of you room or one of the colours on the paper, or you could just leave it the colour it is.  Apply two coats of the paint so that it is definitely covered.  Once the paint is dry apply a thin layer of PVA glue or if you don't have any PVA glue you could use an old clear nail varnish so it seals the paint.

5.After the inside of your tin is dry you can start to attach the paper to the outside.  If you can has a rim at the bottom, a line the paper up with that and glue the first bit down.  follow the paper round the tin making sure the paper sits on the rim the glue the end of the paper onto tin so it is completely covered.

6.If you used glue to stick the paper on make sure its dry before you do this step.  With the excess paper make vertical slits in it every inch so that the slit goes down to the top of the can.

7.With the flaps of paper, add a small amount of glue or double sided tape to each bit and fold it inside of the tin and make sure it is stuck down.  Do this with all the flaps of paper so there is no excess.

Let me know on twitter (@LBoxofTreasures) if you tried this, and if you have any DIY Projects you think I should try let me know about them in the comments.

A Bit Of A Rant

As you can probably guess from the title I'm going to have a bit of a rant about something that has happened to me and, well, is still happening... BROTHERS.  I'm sure if you have a younger brother you will understand what i mean just by that word.  My brother is two years younger than me, and loves to wind me up but always takes it too far until he says something that really hurts, and i know i should just forget about it not react be snapping at, but i do react.  this always make things worse and i get to the point where i cant take it and have said some hurtful things back to him which has made me feel bad.

I had a conversation with my dad about it a while ago and he said  "When someone says something hurtful to someone they will walk of and never think about it again because it hasn't effected them, but the person who received the hurtful comment will hold onto it for a long time, whether they think about it continuously or not, until it builds up into something they cant handle any more and they could end up saying something hurtful to some one else out of anger.  and it continues in a vicious circle."  then he said  "You have to try to not let the comments its and i know it sounds hard but once you teach yourself not to these comment to heart and that they might have been where you are and just got angry then released everything onto you, it becomes a little easier to forgive them, rather than disliking/hating them for a long time"

I do agree with some of the things he has said but it definitely harder than it sounds, and it sounds hard!

If you have any advice for me on how to deal with it let me know in the comments.

Changes To This Blog

Over the past couple of months I have been changing things through out my blog such as my blog name and what I have been blogging about.  I change my blog name because I had started to change what I was blogging about. My blog name used to be Laura: Life, Beauty, Fashion and I was going to blog mainly about theses three topics but the I found myself writing about different things that didn't fit into any of those topics, I also felt like the name wasn't really personal to me.  So I will be posting things that are a bit more personal to me as well as beauty, fashion and lifestyle related.

I will also be changing my posting schedule, i will still be having one post a week but i will be putting it up on a Sunday evening instead of a Wednesday, just because its easier for me to remember to post.  i will also be posting additional posts i feel like they are important and cant wait till the following week.

I hope you will be patient with me over the next few weeks as i am still sorting things out, and thank you for staying with me so far!

I would like to say, sorry for the lack of post over the past couple of weeks, I have had a lot of stuff going on.

Saturday, 20 June 2015

I'm not majorly confident about myself but I have noticed over the past years that I have become more confident in myself.  I think confidence all come down to how we see ourselves, whether it's positive or negative it can all have an effect on how we behave.

thought I would share with you how I changed over the past year and what I did to make myself feel more confident.

Start of Year 9 (September-December)
At the start o year 9 I had just come back from having 8 months off school because of a medical reason. During those 8 months I didn't see many people, I would see my family and my friends once or twice a month.  Consequently I lost a lot of my social skills, so going back to school became very stressful.  Luckily when I went back o had all my friends around me who supported me ( even if they didn't know it). My conversational skill were also not great the most I would say is "hi" "how are you" and the other basic stuff.

At this time I had gotten a bit better at talking to people but I still had that constant thought that people were judging me, even though that probably wasn't the case.  I was findin it easier to talking within my friend ship group but if I was in a class and had to answer a question infront of everyone, I found it hard.

April-now (June)
April was the time I really started to feel comfortable saying anything, really, around my friends. I think there were two big factors to this: 1 I had to perform infront of around 50-70 people for a school concert. 2 my stepmom told me that whenever I start to feel down or not confident I should repeat these words : I'm fab, I'm confident and have nothing to worry about. I know I am not 100% confident yet, and I may never be 100% but at least I will be as close to it I can get.

Top 3 Tips:
~repeat positive words to yourself
~meet up with friends out side of school/ work
~do something outside your comfort zone

Empty Products and Review

Since Christmas I have been collecting my used products so I could write this post.  These are what I have used up over the past few months.

I have been using this face scrub for just over a year, it exfoliates your skin without drying it too much.  (I have wrote a post about this product be for you can read it HERE)  It is not expensive, it's about £6.50 from The Body Shop.

It has taken me ages to find the right shampoo and this seems to be it.  My hair gets oily quite quickly so I have to wash it every day if I want to be able to wear my hair down.  It has a citrus fragrance and leaves your hair smelling nice for 12 hours.

I brought this candle just before Christmas and had been burning it over the Christmas holidays. It is a fruity scent and the smell fills the room within an hour of burning it.

I brought this around Christmas time and got about three-four uses out of it and it's great. It's is a milky solution with small exfoliating bits in it. The scrub paired with the body butter, leaves your skin moisturised and smooth for 2-3 days. Also it makes you smell nice.

I was given this as a birthday present last year by a friend. It came in a set of six with 3 different scents.

This was another Christmas gift. I had been brought the set twice so when I finished this can I was glad I had another. I'm not into body sprays that much so I would never have brought this for myself but I glad I did get it.

Theses are what I have used up over the past few months.  What products have you finished and would recommend purchasing?
